Glammies, MAXCON, Software switch

Now that’s a long time since last post. Well, it looks like I’ll just have to try harder to keeps this thing alive. Anyway I have quite news.

Glammies

The first thing to say (and that should have been really posted here straight away) is that all the effort I’ve put into 2nd year at the Uni has resulted into really satisfying results. Not only my showreel has been nominated in the Best 2nd year category at University of Glamorgan’s Glammies Awards, held at Cineworld Cardiff, but to my surprise, I actually managed to win the award. The quality of work was really top class this year and included both 2d and CGI entries which makes comparing almost that much harder. This category was judged by Dinamo Productions and it must have been hell of a difficult job for them.

MAXCON 2010

Last weekend I spent in Prague where Maxcon 2010 conference hosted by maxarea.com was being held. It’s a specific event focused on professional and occasional users of animation and visualisation software. It was certainly one of the best weekends I’ve had this year. I got to meet a lot of great people from the industry and gathered huge amount of inspiration and some invaluable information from all the presentations, but also from the conversations in the evening, while enjoying drinks and exploring beauty of Prague’s night life. To mention just a few then Tomas Muller‘s, Vyonyx and Petr Rohr‘s presentations were brilliant.

Maya time

I’m incredibly happy that since the end of 2nd year in the Uni I’m not bound to use 3ds max anymore. Not to say I don’t like it, but I prefer Maya by far, so from now on, I’m switching back to maya which I used before coming to Uni, unless of course some job appears, which makes me to use Max again. Another plus is that I can finally work completely windows free and that’s giving my mac loving soul, soothing therapy after 2 years of Win based studio in the Uni. Now I just need some time to get back to it, cause I feel like I’ve forgotten how even the most basic functions work, but hopefully it won’t take long to get grasp back and the MEL and Python will join the game.
